SkillsUSA and the Golden Isles Career Academy

On Friday February 3rd, the Region 8 SkillsUSA competition was held at the Golden Isles Career Academy. Region 8 is made up of 22 counties in southeast Georgia. The event had competitions that stretched across a wide spectrum of skill areas. Golden Isles Career Academy had students competing in 8 of the areas. The Career academy represented itself well by either finishing 1st or 2nd in seven of the eight competitions entered and these students are now advancing to the State SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta March 15-17, 2012. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. Students can be a member of SkillsUSA and participate in a variety of Service Learning Projects. SkillsUSA is a co-curricular student organization that fosters and encourages the development of career-related skills and knowledge. SkillsUSA activities can have a positive impact on a student grades, overall proficiency and skill development. In addition to service learning, SkillsUSA members compete in a host of career-related competitions with Gold, Silver and Bronze level awards earned at regional, state and national levels.
